Three teens are currently in custody for allegedly setting fire to a convent in Staten Island, N.Y.
Vincent Calder, Sasso Christopher and Diego Tuso, all 19-year-old Staten Island residents, were arrested Thursday, after law enforcement officials reported to WABC that Calder admitted to starting the fire at the St. Joseph Hill convent on Oct. 12.
Calder has been charged with arson, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief, all of which are classified as hate crimes. He's also been charged with criminal trespass and burglary, WABC reported.
Christopher was hit with burglary, criminal mischief and criminal trespassing charges, while Tuso received the same series of accusations.
Calder allegedly admitted to police that he threw some burning candles onto the floor of the convent, which started the blaze.
A nun reported she sustained back injuries after having to leap from a window on the second floor of the convent to escape the fire. Another nun also suffered minor injuries, the Associated Press reported, but turned down medical attention at the scene of the fire. Four firefighters were also injured as a result of the flames.
This isn't the first time the church has suffered such an attack - earlier this year, people vandalized the new convent by trashing it, slinging debris all over the area just days before the nuns were scheduled to move in.
The convent is located on St. Joseph Hill Academy grounds-a Catholic school for students kindergarten through high school age.
