Beetlejuice 2 Rumors: Director Tim Burton Might Be On Board To Direct The Sequel To His Classic Horror/Comedy

About a year ago, actor Michael Keaton was interested in reprising his role as the mischievous ghost Beetlejuice. Seth Grahame-Smith was selected as the screenwriter long before that, but no draft has yet to come to light. Now, new rumors put another familiar face to the project.

Unnamed sources are indicating that original director Tim Burton is also expressing interest in directing the Beetlejuice sequel. According to IGN the identities of the mysterious insiders spreading this rumor are known only to the guys behind the Schmoes Know Podcast. In essence they say Burton has made some moves recently to free up his time in order to fit filming the sequel.

Although the sources are unnamed, the Schmoes say that the information is legitimate. However, it's very difficult to take such thing seriously given the vague source of the information.

Burton's involvement would be a welcome addition to the non-reboot of the series to one of the most beloved stories in his career. Whether this information is true or not, the project is very much still in the nascent stages of production. IGN points out that even if the director truly is attached to the project, a lot could happen between now and the time when he becomes irreplaceable.

The original Beetlejuice centered around a couple that discovered they had died in a car accident and were now forced to haunt the new artistic eccentrics who have moved into their old home. When they find themselves underprepared to be scary ghosts, they recruit the help of Beetlejuice, a scare expert. The film starred Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Winona Ryder and Jeffrey Jones.
