Messages supporting ISIS were found on an iconic rock at Youngstown State University in Ohio.
Students and faculty woke up Monday morning and were shocked to see the large rock had been painted overnight, displaying messages including: "YSU supports ISIS," "France deserves destruction," "Jihad over God" and "We are coming," according to the New York Daily News.
Officials at the university took to Twitter to address the situation.
"YSU Police are investigating messages found on the rock on campus. No threats have been validated; no credible threat to campus at this time," the school tweeted at 11 a.m. Monday.
A Facebook post went into greater detail, noting that local police and the FBI were notified "as a precautionary measure."
"We are definitely actively looking to see who did this, and we will prosecute to the fullest extent that we possibly can, whether it's a student on campus or it's outside of campus," said Assistant Vice President Shannon Tirone, according to CBS Pittsburgh.
Shortly after the discovery of its new appearance, the rock was painted white by school employees, but outraged students took it one step farther and spray-painted pro-American messages on the rock.
In the meantime, Youngstown State is reviewing security footage to determine who was responsible for the the ISIS-themed defacement, according to The Vindicator.
"I can tell you we won't be lenient," Tirone told the newspaper.
Prior to the defacement, the rock carried a message of support for the terror victims in Paris.
