Warning: The following contains possible spoilers for Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2"
Ever since Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" took audiences and the box office by storm in the summer of 2014, fans have been asking themselves one very important question that the film left unanswered: who is Peter Quill's (Chris Pratt) father?
In the film, Quill's mother said that he was an "angel, composed entirely of light." The Nova Corps. then told Quill that he was something "ancient." Many fans speculated that comic book character Adam Warlock could be Star-Lord's father. But Umberto Gonzalez, Editor-in-Chief and founder of Heroic Hollywood, says that's not the case.
Update: "Guardians of the Galaxy" writer/director James Gunn has taken to Facebook to debunk Gonzalez's report (seen below). It's fair to note that Gonzalez did say in his original post that Marvel would vehemently deny his claim.
All right. From this moment on I’m going to stop commenting on any rumors surrounding Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,...

Through four separate sources, Gonzalez reports that Peter Quill's father is actually Captain Marvel. No, not Carol Danvers who is getting her own solo film in the next few years. This is Mar-Vell, the powerful Kree warrior from the Silver Age comics who was the original Captain Marvel. He evaluated Earth as a possible threat to the Kree Empire yet came to empathize with humanity.
In the comics, it is Mar-Vell who gives Carol Danvers her powers during a dangerous rescue mission gone wrong. Could a similar story line play out on-screen? Gonzalez says that "Mar-Vell is a key player in the larger cosmic plans of Marvel" so it stands to reason that he is pretty important. Gonzalez's report is bolstered by the fact that Marvel Studios went hard after A-Lister Matthew McConaughey for a mystery role, though he ultimately declined.
