‘qCraft’ Combines Quantum Mechanics and Minecraft

Mix quantum mechanics and Minecraft together—you will get qCraft.

‘qCraft' is an ambitious new mod which combines quantum mechanics with Minecraft. Through this, players can experiment with quantum computers, quantum entanglement, superposition, and observer dependency.

The developers stress that the idea is not about a quantum physics simulator. It is all about a ballpark figure of the involved concepts to give people a better understanding of the quantum world. The latter revolves around looking at the most bizarre things that happen when things are really small.

PCMag explains how the game-play works once the two elements were combined. By using the materials and props featured in the game, players can make observer-dependent blocks which can change depending on the way you view them. For example, a block can have a stone configuration when viewed from east or west. But it can have a wood configuration if viewing is done from north or south. When you see a group of observer-dependent blocks, you can use quantum entanglement to change their state when one of them is viewed. However, blocks that are with superposition have a 50 percent chance of being from one type of block into another, depending on the time and the way you view them.

You can also create quantum computers that can keep and transport the constructs. It will need ice blocks for cooling. When you make your house over a quantum computer, you can bring it to an entangled computer found anywhere on the map.

The goal is to play the game and likewise become more knowledgeable with the concepts. The game lets you create some amazing effects such as doors that appear only at some times and buildings that disappear until you discover the right way to look at them. It's actually about being magical on one hand while being scientific on the other.

If you want to know more about the concept, you can download the mod from the official site of qCraft or the Minecraft forum. It's also bundled with the Hexxit, Tekkit, and Unleashed—Feed the Beast modpacks.
