Sony To Increase Hard Drive Space for PlayStation 4, Supports 1.5TB SATA Drive

Sony is planning to boost up the drive space of its next generation console, PlayStation 4.

Sony is making every possible effort to stay ahead of Microsoft in the console race with both the tech giants scheduled to launch their next generation consoles during this holiday season. Sony will power its PS4 with an enhanced hard drive, which will sport a 1.5 TB SATA drive, reports CNet.

Playstation 4's hard drive space has a diameter of around 9.5 mm, which can be expanded to 12.5 m. The former 9.5 drive space on PS 3 supports 2.5 SATA , but this failed to host games with elevated graphics. But the enlarged memory space on PS 4 is perfectly suited for high action games. However, the details on the amplification of the hard drive space have not been officially confirmed by the console developer. The elevated drive space details were brought forward by the German tech site, Computer Bid.

The upcoming Sony console only supports HDMI ports and does away with the A/V RCA/RGB and SCART ports. The former system jacks often used to delivers distorted picture quality. But it seems like the Japanese conglomerate doesn't want its future players to miss out a single detail on screen while playing games on PS4.

Extension of the hard drive space might be a smart marketing move on Sony's part to pacify buyers after repeatedly shortening the list of PS4 launch titles. After Watch Dogs, PlayStation 4 will also be missing on the next generation racing title, Driving Club. The game was to be an inaugural gift with the console. As of now, other games like Contrast and Resogun will be offered in lieu of the racing game.

"We understand that the delay is disappointing news, but can assure you that the reason we have made this decision is to ensure that when DriveClub launches, it will realize the next-gen racing vision," stated Shunei Yoshida , president of Sony Computer Entertainment, reported The Verge.
