David Canary: Veteran Soap Actor Dies At 77

Veteran soap opera actor David Canary has passed away at the age of 77, reported the Wilton Bulletin. The "All My Children" star won five Daytime Emmy Awards for playing twins Adam and Stuart Chandler from 1984 to 2011. He died of natural causes at his home in Connecticut.

Canary was a native of Indiana, but was raised in Ohio. He got his start acting in the theater in New York City before he finally tried his hand at film and TV roles, USA Today reported. He starred in the film "Hombre" with Paul Newman and had recurring roles in "Gunsmoke" and "Bonanza."

His first soap role was in the mid 1960s on the nighttime show "Peyton Place" in which he played Mia Farrow's physical therapist. In the early 1980s, Canary landed the role on "All My Children" where he was nominated 16 times for Outstanding Lead Actor between 1993 and 2008, winning five times. He retired from acting in 2010, but had a role on Larry David's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" in 2011.

Canary is survived by his wife Maureen, his son Christopher and his daughter Kathryn, according to ABC News. Canary and his wife were named Distinguished Citizens of the Year by the Wilton YMCA in 2005 and were very active in the volunteer community.
