Columbus Ohio Shooting Leaves 4 Dead, 1 In Critical Condition, Police Say

A neighbor shot and killed three of four members of a family and wounded a 12-year-old girl at their Columbus, Ohio, home before the suspect was shot dead by police, authorities said.

Officers were notified about a shooting at about 5 p.m. EST in the Hilltop section of the city, the Columbus Division of Police said late Monday night, according to NBC News. Officers gave chase and shot the suspect, identified as Barry Kirk, 50. It was only after Kirk was shot that police discovered the bodies of his victims inside the house.

Kirk was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died Monday night, police said, adding that no police were injured during the altercation.

The three dead were identified as 31-year-old John Anderson II, 30-year-old Christina Anderson and their son, 7-year-old Landon Anderson, according to Business Insider.

Their 12-year-old daughter who wasn't identified was taken to Columbus Children's Hospital in critical condition, reported the Associated Press. A police spokeswoman didn't provide any updates on the girl's health, but did say she is expected to survive.

No other details of the shootings were available.

The incident is under investigation.
