Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch will reportedly need surgery to repair a sports hernia, and is expected to miss a month, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport.
Lynch met with specialist Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia this past Monday to confirm his injury. Lynch is set for surgery on Wednesday morning, according to Rapoport. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has already announced that their star running back will not play against the Pittsburgh Steelers this weekend.
With Lynch expected to miss a month, running back Thomas Rawls will need to continue to step up. The rookie running back had a career day on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, as he rushed for 209 yards and scored two touchdowns. Rawls was effective in both the passing game and on the ground, and many similarities are being found between Rawls and Lynch.
Despite the differences in physical stature, both backs are physical in the run game and look to make contact with defenders, according to Jayson Jenks of the Seattle Times. "I never run out of bounds," said Rawls, via the Seattle Times. "It's just my makeup. It's just my whole mentality. I think I would feel less of a person if I just ran out of bounds."
The Seahawks will look for Rawls to have another impact game this upcoming weekend against the Steelers, as they are currently fighting to make the postseason. The Seahawks are currently 5-5, and trail three games behind the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC West. The Seahawks will look to get Lynch back for a playoff run, but will need to start winning consecutive games down the stretch of this season if that is going to happen.
