The West Point Academy's annual pillow fight has been officially banned after its most recent brawl ended in blood, according to the New York Daily News.
West Point Academy made headlines this summer after viral videos surfaced of its annual pillow fight, a tradition meant to help the cadets bond and blow off steam.
However, as previously reported by HNGN, the celebratory pillow fight turned into a bloody brawl after some of the cadets laced their pillow cases with hard objects like helmets.
This caused a stir online, as there were not only bloody noses but also concussions, resulting in about 30 injuries.
Now the academy is shutting down the activity for good and is still pursuing those allegedly involved in turning the playful exchange into a dangerous game, according to Fox News.
The investigation is being headed by Col. Karl Meyer. Meyer said that the incident had never been officially approved by the academy nor was it any kind of tradition, although sources indicate that the pillow fight occurred every year since 2001, according to the Daily Beast.
The academy's report on the incident states that the cadets had not been injured by hard object placed in the sacks but were instead hit by elbows and "other body parts," according to USA Today.
"Many injuries were the result of cadets having been hit by elbows or other body parts during the scuffle of the pillow fight or from simply falling or being knocked to the ground," read the report.
