A man who jumped the fence of the White House Thursday was immediately caught, but the White House is on lockdown nevertheless.
President Barack Obama and his family are in Washington for Thanksgiving celebrations, according to his public schedule, and the president was in the White House at the time of the security breach, The Guardian reported.
The jumper breached the fence on the Pennsylvania Ave. side of the president's home, and the intruder was wearing an American flag and holding a manila envelope, according to CNBC. The fence is topped with sharp metal spikes, but the jumper made it over this Thanksgiving Day afternoon.
The Secret Service had recently increased the security of the White House security. One measure taken was to improve the fence, adding the metal spikes, due to several other recent incidents of an intruder jumping over. The U.S. Secret Service did a full security sweep, even though the jumper had been caught, and the White House went into lockdown immediately, according to Reuters.
The White House went into lockdown earlier this week when an apple core was thrown over the fence, WSFB noted.
No further details have been released, but CNBC noted that the situation is under control.
