Chicago Bears Rumors: Jay Cutler Injury UPDATE, Jordan Palmer To Sign, Lance Briggs Out 6 Weeks

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler suffered a groin injury against the Washington Redskins and is expected to miss at least four weeks. The Bears, with only one healthy quarterback on the roster, are reportedly signing free agent Jordan Palmer.

Cutler sustained a torn groin muscle and will miss at least four weeks, the team website announced on Monday. Cutler was sacked early in the second quarter by Redskins lineman Chris Baker. While it didn't look like a particularly devastating hit, Cutler remained on the ground for several minutes before limping to the locker room.

Backup quarterback Josh McCown took over for Cutler, who had completed 3-of-8 passes for 28 yards and one interception before leaving the game.

McCown played well in Cutler's stead, going 14-of-20 for 204 yards and one interception. Looking to add depth to the position, the Bears are expected to re-sign Palmer.

"With Jay Cutler going down today with an injury, the Bears will re-sign QB Jordan Palmer," ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted on Sunday.

Palmer was a sixth round pick by Washington in the 2007 NFL draft. The Redskins waived him prior to the start of the season; he served as a backup in Cincinnati and Jacksonville. Palmer played well for Chicago during this year's training camp but was ultimately released in August.

Going into their bye-week, Bears coach Marc Trestman has additional time to assess his roster. He didn't rule out re-signing Palmer.

"We're just going to sit back here today and evaluate the game and coach our guys up to the best of our availability, and we'll see where Jay is at and what the prognosis is for the next couple weeks and work from there, but Jordan certainly is an option," Trestman said on Monday, via ESPN.

Chicago will also be without linebacker Lance Briggs, who suffered a shoulder injury on Sunday, for approximately six weeks.
