Rider Strong, the 33-year-old actor who played the heartthrob Shawn Hunter on ABC's hit show "Boy Meets World," married his fiancée on Sunday, Oct. 20, nearly a year after he proposed to long-time girlfriend Alexandra Barreto last Christmas with an engagement ring he made himself, ABC News reports.
"I spent weeks making the ring in secret," Strong revealed to People magazine. "I carved the ring out of wax, cast it in white gold and had my dad make a wooden ring box for me. My dad made my mom's ring, so I was following in his footsteps."
Strong met Barreto in 2006 when the two were co-stars on the short-lived WB series "Pepper Dennis," and two continued working together on the horror film "Tooth and Nail" later that year.
Just before Christmas 2012, Strong proposed to Barreto in the pouring rain "beneath the redwood trees of his childhood home in Northern California."
On Friday, Oct. 18, Strong told ABC News in a statement, "I'm incredibly lucky to be getting married to my best friend and partner-in-crime, Alexandra Barreto. We're tying the knot at a summer camp in Oregon."
US Weekly reports that the wedding went off without a hitch, all of the wedding guests sleeping in camp bunks after the ceremony. They enjoyed a ropes course, talent show and plenty of games, feasting on a Ruby Jewel ice cream cart instead of the traditional wedding cake.
Barreto wore a Nicole Miller wedding gown while Strong was dressed in a Rag & Bone suit, the newlyweds joined by famous friends like Travis Schuldt of "Scrubs" fame and Natalie Zea from "The Following."
Strong's former "Boy Meets World" co-star, Danielle Fishel, also got married this weekend, having wed her fiancé Tim Belusko on Saturday, Oct. 19 in downtown Los Angeles, which was why she was unable to join in the festivities.
"Bad news: Danielle Fishel's getting married this same weekend, so I'm missing some of my Boy Meets World family (that was my fault, she chose the date first)," Strong told US Weekly.
