Donald Trump and controversy are never far apart. While campaigning in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on Nov. 24, Trump started discussing an article written by former Washington Post reporter Serge Kovaleski.
Kovaleski's article about the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks has resurfaced in the news recently after Trump alleged that Muslims in New Jersey had celebrated the attacks. "A nice reporter. Now, the poor guy, you gotta see this guy. 'Oh, I don't know what I said, I don't remember,'" Trump said while waving and bending his arms into crooked positions, according to Reuters. Pulitzer winner, Kovaleski now works for The New York Times.
The GOP presidential front-runner, denied knowing Kovaleski. "I have no idea who this reporter, Serge Kovaleski is, what he looks like or his level of intelligence. I don't know if he's J.J. Watt or Muhammad Ali in his prime - or somebody of less athletic or physical ability," Trump said on Twitter, according to The Hill.
"Despite having one of the all-time great memories, I certainly do not remember him. What I do know is that after 14 years and no retraction, this reporter tried to pull away from the tailgate party paragraph he wrote many years ago for The Washington Post," Trump added, according to The New York Times.
"In my speech before over 10,000 people in Myrtle Beach, S.C., I merely mimicked what I thought would be a flustered reporter trying to get out of a statement he made long ago. If Mr. Kovaleski is handicapped, I would not know because I do not know what he looks like," Trump said in a statement, according to The Hill.
"We're outraged that he would ridicule the physical appearance of one of our reporters," said The New York Times.
Kovaleski refuted claims that he was trying to pull away from his past reporting, "Nothing could be further from the truth," he said, according to The New York Times.
