Gunshots were reported near a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Colo., where a gunman fired at passing cars from the parking lot of the clinic.
As the media rushed to the scene, the Colorado Springs Police Department warned off reporters from entering the surrounding area, as it was not secure. The Fire Department, in a comment, only mentioned that the facility was at 3480 Centennial Blvd. and did not divulge any more details, according to The New York Times.
Colorado Springs Police went on a search for the gunman on Friday. "We still have a gunman that is out there," said police spokeswoman Lt. Catherine Buckley to The Denver Post. The event occurred around noon, local time, as mentioned on the Colorado Springs Fire Department's Twitter account.
"We were looking out the window and we had an officer wave us back inside," said Brigitte Wolfe, who works at a restaurant located near the clinic. "They have everything blocked off."
She also said that the police officers had their guns drawn and were facing the Planned Parenthood clinic, according to The Washington Post.
For precaution, police asked local residents to avoid the area near Centennial Boulevard and West Fillmore Street. They had also closed the stretch of Centennial Boulevard, from Garden of Gods to Fillmore, in both directions, according a report from ABC News.
Colorado Springs is known to be the second most populous city in the state and can be found 70 miles south of Denver.
