The much-anticipated messaging app, BBM, has finally made its way to Android and iOS smartphones but several users are experiencing set up errors.
Several early hiccups did not deter millions of fans who turned up to download the popular BlackBerry messenger on their Android and iOS smartphones. In order to carry out the process in a smooth fashion, BlackBerry decided to share the app with those who signed up in advance to receive updates on BBM from BBM.com, followed by the rest of the world.
The BBM app went live on Google Play and Apple's App Store Monday, giving all the users a chance to get their favorite messaging system on their smartphones. Despite an organized roll-out plan, BlackBerry seems to have encountered some issues while setting up an account on the app. Several users encountered problems signing up the service, landing on the error page reading "temporary server error."
BBM was scheduled for an early launch last month but due to a leaked copy, the date was postponed in order to resolve the issue.
The app is available for download on both Android and iOS platforms. BlackBerry's current issues with the download may be server related. There has been a rush for app and it seems the company was not prepared for it.
There has been no official word from the Canadian phone maker about users experiencing errors while signing up but Andrew Bocking, EVP at BBM, promised in Monday's blog to return with another update on the progress of the app. We can hope to get some tips to tackle the set-up error to be able to use the app finally.
BBM continues to be a popular messaging platform around the world, which remained exclusive to BlackBerry handsets since it was introduced. But now the instant messenger is a multi-platform mobile application competing directly with the likes of Whatsapp.
