New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola will not play this weekend against the Denver Broncos and is not traveling with the team, according to Steve Burton of WBZ TV Boston.
Amendola injured his knee against the Buffalo Bills on Monday night football. The Patriots receiver was expected to fill the slot role after New England lost wide receiver Julian Edelman with a broken foot. Amendola caught nine passes for 117 yards against the Bills, but he was unable to return after suffering the injury.
The Patriots have already lost running back Dion Lewis for the year with a torn ACL, and head coach Bill Belichick will continue to find players in his roster to step up. New England is 10-0 going into their matchup against the Broncos, and they face arguably their toughest challenge against the NFL's top ranked defense in terms of yards allowed per game.
The Patriots officially listed Amendola as questionable and revealed little about his injury this week. New England wide receiver Brandon LaFell and tight end Rob Gronkowski will look to be quarterback Tom Brady's top targets this week. Gronkowski leads the team in receiving yards and touchdowns this season, and he will need to have an impact performance Sunday with Amendola out.
The Patriots also placed wide receiver Aaron Dobson on season-ending injured reserve after suffering an ankle sprain against the Bills. The Patriots continue to lose offensive weapons this season, but Belichick is known for finding great talent deep in his roster. It will be interesting to see who steps up for the Patriots this weekend, as they have continued to win despite losing multiple players to injury.
