Seth Apel, 12, was cutting firewood with his father and his brothers when he went to get some more piles of wood from the tractor, after which his sleeve got caught in the tractor's mechanism somehow, leading to him losing his arm. Thankfully, his grandfather, who lives next door, heard the screams and called for 911 immediately. Once the medics arrived, they put the severed arm in ice and flew Seth to a children's hospital to be treated.
The boy, from Clarion County, Penn., has received numerous well wishes from people after the accident and had been sent to a children's hospital in Pittsburgh where doctors were able to re-attach his arm - the one which he uses to pitch with when he plays his favourite sport, baseball. He was in surgery for eight hours, after which doctors were able to successfully complete the procedure, according to CBS Pittsburgh.
The unfortunate incident of the boy's arm being cut off from him happened on Nov. 7. The tractor's belt-driven mechanism was what caused his arm to be severed, just below his shoulder, according to KWTX reported.
The Western Pennsylvania boy has now returned home, less than three weeks after having his arm reattached. Seth told JDKA-TV that "it feels good to be home."
During the course of the surgery, his mother, Angela Apel, said that the doctors weren't sure at first if the boy would regain full use of his arm, but she insisted that "God will give him whatever he needs and, whatever it is, we will be grateful."
Seth returned home on Friday, according to The Guardian.
"We're excited to see how God writes his story, 'cause that's what he's doing," Angela said.
