While President Barack Obama was giving a speech in the Rose Garden about the Affordable Care Act one of the people standing behind him on stage, a pregnant woman, started to faint and was caught by people standing near her and the president, according to CNN.
Karmel Allison was invited to the event because her medical history provided an example of what the Affordable Care Act was created for; Allison is a Type 1 Diabetic who has been forced to stay with the same insurance for years despite skyrocketing costs out of fear that her pre-existing condition would make it impossible to obtain other insurance, according to the Huffington Post.
As Allison was starting to fall the people standing behind her were able to catch her as the president came over to help support her as well.
"I got ya. You're OK," President Obama said. "This is what happens when I talk too long."
Allison was escorted off stage and attended to by the White House physician, something she would joke about later on, according to CNN.
"Now I to say that ACA got me care by the White House medical professional," Allison said.
Allison was OK after the incident and was able to explain what happened to CNN afterward.
"I'm 20 weeks pregnant at this point and I hadn't had that much to drink that morning because I was worried about possibly needing to go to the bathroom during the speech," Allison said. "And as the sun hit me, I got a little lightheaded.
"It was honor to be there and I'm rather sorry I fainted in the middle of the speech, but I was really happy to be on stage at that moment," Allison said.
