A series of bomb threats resulted in the evacuation of Walmart stores across Maine Saturday evening, according to WCVB.
Stores across the state reported receiving a recorded message threatening the use of a bomb, WGME 13 reported.
Stores in the counties of Somerset, Knox, York and Cumberland were evacuated around 7:30 p.m. No bombs were found at any of the locations that reported the threatening phone calls, according to WCVB.
Scarborough Police Sgt. Mary Pearson gave a press release after the incident at the Scarborough Walmart.
"Police provided support for the Wamart management and remained on scene until it was deemed safe to allow customers and associates back into the store," she said, according to the Portland Press Herald. Stores were later reopened and resumed normal procedures.
The threat was deemed unfounded by 8:30 p.m. Police remained on the scene until around 9:15 p.m.
Stores in other states also reported bomb threats, including those in Horseheads, N.Y.; Idaho Falls, Idaho; Rawlins, Wyo.; and Vidalia, Miss., according to the Portland Press Herald.
