You can make the argument that "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" is the most anticipated comic book movie of 2016 (though "Captain America Civil War" and "Suicide Squad" will give it a run for its money in quality). But to this point, fans have only seen one brief teaser and one full trailer for the film. That's not a lot of known footage for a mega blockbuster. Fortunately, Warner Bros. is about to change that.
Over the weekend it was teased that a sneak peek for "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" would be airing today during the mid-season finale of "Gotham" on FOX. It is now confirmed that a new teaser will be hitting the airwaves later tonight. Though part of separate continuities, it makes sense that WB would pair the "Dawn of Justice" teaser with a younger version of Bruce Wayne. The show has a built in target audience already in place.
Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" follow-up will not only be the first time DC's two (three) biggest heroes shared the big screen together, but it will also be the true launching pad for the DC Extended Universe. The last son of Krypton and the Caped Crusader will be joined by Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and possibly the Flash as well as Lex Luthor. The seeds for future standalone DCEU films will be planted in "Dawn of Justice" as well as the eventual Justice League.
Hopefully, the new teaser offers a few more hints to the villain of the film (Doomsday?) as well as some yet-to-be-seen characters. Either way, it should be entertaining and tantalizing.
To this point, Marvel has owned the shared cinematic universe business with the enormous success of the MCU. But if "Dawn of Justice" is a hit with fans then Warner Bros. will immediately become a serious player once again. The MCU vs. DCEU could become the new Coke vs. Pepsi of the entertainment world.
"Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" will hit theaters on March 25, 2016.
