Warning: The following contains spoilers for last night's episode of AMC's "The Walking Dead."
AMC's "The Walking Dead" aired its mid-season finale last night to much fanfare but little in the way of definitive action. Deena bought the big one, unfortunately, and Morgan's prisoner escaped. The Saviors received a more proper introduction by namedropping Negan and Rick and the gang are right smack dab in the middle of a Walker horde. Other than that, not too much happened.
But on "The Talking Dead," host Chris Hardwick read a message from current "Walking Dead" showrunner Scott Gimple about what to expect in the latter half of season six and it sounds pretty exciting.
"We will be wooing you with the weirdest of Valentine's Day Gifts: chaos, terror, heartbreak, heroics, tragedy, and terror. Yes, that's two terrors. Friends, in all seriousness, episode nine is one of the biggest episodes we've done. Greg [Nicotero] and the astounding crew made magic. We cannot wait to show you February 14. Make sure your television boxes are in good operating condition and install safety belts on your couches. This one is gargantuan. Some people give candy, flowers, and/or hilariously themed teddy bears but this Valentine's Day we're giving you The Walking Dead midseason premiere."
Spoiler Alert
For those who are familiar with the source material, you likely recognized the closing moments of last night's episode. In the comics, the plan to wade through the walker horde goes horribly, horribly wrong when the zombies notice Jessie's son. While being attacked, Jessie refuses to let go of Carl's hand, which forces Rick to slice through her arm with his hatchet in order to save Carl. This, obviously, leads to Jessie's death.
Though the show has taken a creative license with the original storylines at several turns, last night's episode did seem to set up those events pretty clearly. It may not go down exactly like that, but don't be surprised if Jessie's yappy kids get her killed.
"The Walking Dead" will return to AMC on February 14, 2016.
