At the Apple event in San Francisco on Tuesday, the tech giant released their lightest iPad Mini yet which includes a much anticipated feature: retina display, WIRED reported.
"The one most requested feature to add to iPad mini was a beautiful Retina display, and that's what we're going to do today," said Phil Schiller, Apple senior vice president of worldwide marketing.
The iPad Mini with Retina display is priced at $399 and will be available for purchase during the holidays. On their website, it says "Coming later in November."
The first iPad Mini was released last October with a 7.9-inch, 1024 x 768 resolution display. Though the first product was successful and has sold 170 million tablets since they launched three years ago, there was never a significant difference between the Mini and and non-Apple tablets, especially for consumers who do not look for a sharp retina display.
The new 2048 x 1536 resolution screen -- same at the new iPad Air -- is finally in line with other tablets, like the Nexus 7. Schillder also boasted it's 10 hour battery life, adding you can "watch the entire trilogy of 'The Black Knight' on one charge."
Several other features have been added or updated. It includes the A7 chip to match the iPhone 5S and is four times faster at CPU tasks and eight times faster at graphic tasks.
It also comes in a variety of color combinations -- white and silver or black and gray.
The original iPad Mini will still be available at $299 -- $30 less than the original listing price and $100 cheaper than the latest version with Retina display.
The new MacBook Pro also features Retina display and a thinner appearance, priced $200 cheaper than it's original version at $1,299.
