The University of Central Florida football team has officially announced that Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost will become the program's 10th head coach, according to UCF's website.
"Scott is a winner and innovator who has directed one of college football's most exciting offenses at the University of Oregon," said UCF president and athletic director Danny White, via UCF's website. "His attitude and experience are exactly what we need to ensure the Knights compete, and win, at the highest levels. I couldn't be more excited to bring Scott and his fiancé, Ashley, to the UCF family."
Knights head coach George O'Leary resigned after a 0-8 start this season, and stepped down early so that the program could find his future replacement. Quarterbacks coach Danny Barrett took over as the interim head coach, but the Knights failed to earn a win this season and fell to a record of 0-12 on the year.
There were reports that Bowling Green coach Dino Babers would be the next head coach at UCF, according to Shannon Green of the Orlando Sentinel. However, the university likely felt they couldn't pass on an opportunity to have a high profiled name like Frost run their program.
"UCF is an excellent opportunity for me because our student-athletes can succeed immediately, both competitively and academically. We've had great recent success - I vividly remember watching the Fiesta Bowl victory. With our student-athletes, football staff, facilities, fans and supporters, I know we will bring exciting and winning football back to Orlando," said Scott, via UCF's website.
Scott will now focus his attention on recruiting top players around the country, and will have to battle for top recruits in Florida, as there are many programs in the state including Miami, Florida State, and Florida that Scott will have to compete with in recruiting.
