Chrysler Group LLC Alerts 2013 Dodge Challenger V6 Owners Of Possible Short Circuit Fire Hazard

Chrysler Group LLc in a press release issued March 17, 2013, addresses the faulty wiring problems found in the 2013 Dodge Challenger with V-6 engines that may lead to fire

Seven fire incidents have been reported due to the wiring malfunction and none resulting in injuries. The issue has been reported only for the 2013 model Dodge Challenger V6 engines built from November 2012 to January 2013. Chrysler said that there are a total of 4,459 affected cars, which will be inspected. Nearly 2,500 Dodge Challengers are with their respective owners who have been alerted by the company either via phone or mail and the remaining are in dealer showrooms.

A company spokesman, Eric Mayne, said the electrical issue is caused due to a single batch of wrongly built electrical components, which came to light when the workers attempted to reconfigure the parts. Although it is still unknown which particular part causes the short circuit, but evidently certain wire harnesses caught fire while reconfiguring the parts, reports Torque News.

Chrysler is attempting to reach nearly 2,500 car owners making them aware of the issue and advising on not parking the affected vehicles in or around any buildings. The American car manufacturing company said it would provide affected owners with loaner cars without any charge until the repairs are completed.

This is not the first time Chrysler has announced a recall due to fire-related issues. Chrysler recalled nearly 1,800 model year 2013 Dodge Avengers and Chrysler 200s last month following a possible fuel tank leakage issue that could have led to fire.

Prior to this, nearly 360,000 SUVs and pickups in U.S. were recalled last month, to repair a rear axle problem which could have locked up the axle resulting in losing control of the vehicle. The affected vehicles were 2009 Dodge Durango and Chrysler Aspen SUVs, 2009 to 2011 Dodge Dakota and 2009 to 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup trucks, according to Torque News.

Chrysler recalled the affected vehicles early enough which resulted in zero injuries in any of the last three manufacturing defect incidents that were reported in the last two months.
