For many parents, this year's most preferred baby names are Sophia and Jackson. However, a few other interesting and unusual picks have trended this year, according to BabyCenter.
The parenting site revealed that some parents chose to name their babies based on Instagram filters like Ludwig (42 percent) and Lux (75 percent). The surprising picks could be attributed to the fact that about a third of Instagram's active users are parents who share photos and videos of their children daily. "There's this beautiful thing that happens with an Instagram filter. You take these precious moments in your life and it makes them even more beautiful, it enhances them. I think people have just really warm feelings about that and these names come into their consciousness," said BabyCenter editor Linda Murray via Today Parents.
BabyCenter also saw a rise in gender-neutral names this year with Wyatt, Piper, Riley and Carson moving up the ranks compared to four years ago, according to ABC News.
Baby names based on planets and stars also trended. Top picks included Venus, Jupiter, Stella and Sunny. "In the '60s, celestial baby names had a hippie vibe, but today's parents are more inspired by planetary science and space travel," said Murray.
The parenting site also said that names like Dre (77 percent), Lyon (61 percent) and Hakeem (55 percent) spiked this year thanks to the popularity of Fox TV series "Empire."
But for the top 10 baby names of 2015, Murray said that the choices below were consistently stable in their ranking in the last three to five years.

Back in November, another parenting site revealed that Sophia had been chosen as the world's most popular pick for baby girls, as previously reported on HNGN.
