Dec. 2, 2015 will now be one of the most important dates in Mark Zuckerberg's life, due to the birth of his daughter, Max. The Facebook CEO's wife, Priscilla Chan, gave birth to a seven-pound baby girl on Tuesday at around 4 p.m. EST.
Zuckerberg proudly announced the birth on Facebook, not forgetting to thank the community for the support they showed throughout the pregnancy of his wife. "You've given us hope that together we can build this world for Max and all children," Zuckerberg wrote on Facebook, according to NBC News.
With the birth announcement of Max Chan Zuckerberg, the CEO also revealed that throughout the course of his life, he and his wife will be giving away 99 percent of their Facebook shares, which is currently valued at $45 billion, to the "Chan Zuckerberg Initiative" - a charity that aims to advance human potential and promote equality, The Guardian reports.
Zuckerberg made the announcements through a 2,234-word letter addressed to Max.
"Like all parents, we want you to grow up in a world better than ours today. While headlines often focus on what's wrong, in many ways the world is getting better. Health is improving. Poverty is shrinking. Knowledge is growing. People are connecting. Technological progress in every field means your life should be dramatically better than ours today.
We will do our part to make this happen, not only because we love you, but also because we have a moral responsibility to all children in the next generation," Zuckerberg wrote in the letter, according to Daily Mail.
