United (1-1-0) is neck-and-neck with Shakhtar Donetsk for the top spot in Group A. While United has multiple players in doubt, the club's depth is bolstered by the availability of midfielder Adnan Januzaj. The Belgium native could make his Champions League debut, according to the BBC.
"He is now available for the Champions League by the way his date of birth works," United boss David Moyes said, via BBC. "He's an exciting young player making good progress all the time and he is someone who is going to play a big part in the future of Manchester United. He's an exceptional talent."
United is looking to overcome a slow start to the season. The club is coming off a 1-1 draw on Saturday against Southampton.
"We are disappointed," said centre-back Jonny Evans, who may start if Rio Ferdinand or Nemanja Vidic are unavailable. "We watched part of the Southampton game back and it was clear our performance was not up to scratch, especially in possession, giving the ball away and being quite sloppy."
Real Sociedad will hope to capitalize on United's slow start. Real sits at the bottom of Group D with a 0-0-2 record. Esteban Granero (knee) is the only player unavailable for Real, SB Nation reports.
United is without Darren Fletcher (illness); Nemanja Vidic, Danny Welbeck, Rio Ferdinand and Tom Cleverley are questionable for Wednesday.
Projected Lineups (via SB Nation):
Manchester United: David De Gea; Patrice Evra, Jonny Evans, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling; Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick; Adnan Januzaj, Wayne Rooney, Nani; Robin van Persie.
Real Sociedad: Claudio Bravo; Alberto de la Bella, Inigo Martinez, Mikel Gonzalez, Carlos Martinez; David Zurutuza, Markel Bergara; Antoine Griezmann, Carlos Vela, Gonzalo Castro; Imanol Agirretxe.
