Chris Brown was supposed to be the guest on Tuesday night's episode of "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah," but Nick Cannon showed up instead with absolutely no mention of the troubled R&B singer. The interview with Brown was reportedly scrapped due to the staff of the Comedy Central show being "split" on his appearance, according to The Daily Beast.
"Daily Show" staffers said that Brown's booking on the show became a cause for concern backstage, possibly due to his well-documented history with violence. Brown violently assaulted former girlfriend Rihanna six years ago and has since tried to repair his image with little success. Since then, Brown had a violent, window-breaking tantrum on "Good Morning America," dodged a hit-and-run charge in 2013 and even got kicked out of rehab in 2014, according to Jezebel. Brown's violent past even forced Australia to ban the singer from touring in the country. While several of "The Daily Show" staffers seemed to agree with the action taken by the land down under, Noah apparently saw the interview as a way to bring light to domestic abuse issues.
At the top of the show, Noah mentioned nothing about Brown, while a Comedy Central spokesperson later said that guest booking was always subject to change and that "the show hopes to reschedule Chris for a future appearance," according to The Washington Post. No reason for Brown's nonappearance was given.
