Buffalo is barely into the season and some are already questioning whether coach Ron Rolston is headed for the hot seat. The Sabres are 1-8-1 partly due to a struggling offense. The team is 16-19-6, ESPN reports, since Rolston took over on Feb. 21 for Lindy Ruff.
Despite the mounting criticism, Rolston refuses to speculate about his job security.
"I'm always up. You have to be positive," Rolston told reporters, via ESPN. "That's our job, to be positive around here and work hard every day. That's what we can control. The results will take care of themselves if you do those two things."
Although the record doesn't show it, Rolston believes his team can improve and begin winning games.
"I don't think we've consistently done enough things to create the identity that we want," said Rolston. "Second and thirds, for example, when we have a slow start we seem to pick it up at the end and we start to do some of the things we're supposed to do consistently."
Buffalo has the opportunity for its first win of the season at home when the 5-2-0 Bruins visit.
Boston has looked good to start the season. The offense has been able to score, and the defense has been stingy to the tune of allowing just 1.4 goals per game.
"Everybody showed up from the drop of the puck tonight, and obviously it shows on the result," Bruins star Patrice Bergeron said of Boston's 5-0 win on Saturday over the Lightning.
