Ouya Games Review: Company CEO Discusses Early Launch Problems of Their Alternative Game Console

Ouya, the alternative to next-generation consoles has had a rough launch since debuting earlier this year. The issues have been so wide spread that it has prompted the company's CEO to touch on the mistakes that were made during the process at a Sept. presentation.

According to IGN, Julie Uhrman took the stage at the XOXO Festival in Portland, Or to address some of the issues surrounding the Android-powered console in the past recent months. At the event she discussed some of the big issues like the delayed launch of shipments, the infamous vomiting ad and the "Free the Games Fund."

"We've done a lot of things wrong, and made a lot of mistakes, but I think one thing that's unique about us is that we're going to continue to make them," Uhrman said defending the youth of her company. "We're young, we're scrappy, we're moving fast. We're building this product out in the open with you. We got our start with you, we get better every day because we listen to you, and some things are going to resonate, and some things aren't."

She later went on to discuss the Free the Games Fund, which emerged back in Sept as a way to draw new titles to its Android console by matching Kickstarter funds in return for six months of Ouya exclusivity. After two projects were suspected of manipulating the program, at least one indie developer decided to remove their game from the console.

Many were wondering if the process would be abused by some to make a quick buck off of Ouya. However, as Uhrman reiterated, the program doesn't go to low-quality games. One must demonstrate user interest by generating at least $50,000 before the program is launched and will only match up to $250,000 contributions.
