It would have been perfectly understandable had you criticized AMC for a lack of originality when they announced that they would be making a companion series to "The Walking Dead." After all, how many stories can you really cover about the zombie apocalypse? Yet despite some questionable character decisions and choppy pacing, "Fear The Walking Dead" proved able to stand on its own two undead legs. The first season averaged a stellar 11.4 million viewers per week and the network just began production on its second season.
One aspect of season one that countless viewers responded well to was Colman Domingo's over-the-top yet still delightfully enjoyable Victor Strand. Though fans are supposed to believe that any character could be killed off without warning, it looks like Strand will be around for at least a little while as Domingo has been promoted to series regular for season two.
Despite not making his first appearance until episode five of the six-episode first season, Strand immediately caught the attention of viewers for his savvy, smooth-talking and well-dressed ways. Though not a shining white knight in terms of morality, Strand did save Frank Dillane's Nick and the main families and has positioned his yacht Abigail as season two's main escape route. "Fear The Walking Dead" obviously likes the fresh energy he brings to the show which could imply that he will be safe for the majority of the series' sophomore run. Beyond that, though, is anyone's guess as fans of "The Walking Dead" can tell you.
We still know close to nothing about Strand other than he is wealthy and intelligent. For someone who lives such a cushy life, he sure did take to the early stages of the apocalypse pretty well. His maneuvering will be fun to watch once again in season two.
"Fear The Walking Dead" is expected to return with a 15-episode run in summer 2016.
