The 11-year-old boy who took a gun, knives, and rounds of ammunition to a Washington middle school on Wednesday told authorities that a "voice" told him to kill a school bully, StarTribune reported.
A police report detailing his comments to officials was released on Thursday as the boy appeared in Clark County Juvenile Court.
The voice he heard allegedly told him it was a good idea to kill the bully, the report states. The judge in the case ordered for the boy to have a mental competency hearing.
He remains in custody and the case will be reviewed on Friday.
After police officers received a call around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, they discovered a gun, multiple knives, and 400 rounds of ammunition on the boy and immediately placed Frontier Middle School in Vancouver and a nearby elementary school on lockdown.
The boy was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
"We got a message on the intercom, and they said we were in lockdown," recalled sixth-grader Zaniah Matthews. "We were under the table for about an hour, and then we could move around."
Evergreen Public Schools spokesman Kris Fay said parents were notified through social media and a letter sent to their homes. Fay also said classes resumed on Thursday.
The boy was also expelled from Frontier, Fay said.
"This kid has not been on the radar for this," he added, saying the student never showed troubling signs. The school administration is still investigating the incident, but all protocols seemed to work effectively during the situation.
"From the safety standpoint, everything went well yesterday," Fay said.
The frightening incident came just two days after a 12-year-old student at Sparks Middle School in Nevada opened fire at school, killing his teacher and wounding two other students. The shooter, who has yet to be identified, also died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
