Jerry Falwell Jr., had some choice words for the Muslim community and gun control advocates in a speech at Liberty University in Virginia, on Friday night. As president of the university, he urged students to get their gun permits and to practice concealed carry so they would be able to "end Muslims before they walk in and kill," according to CNN. The comment is most likely in response to the San Bernardino attacks which took place earlier in the week, in which 14 people were killed and 21 injured by Islamic extremists.
The comment was part of a speech during Liberty University's weekly convocation, which roughly 13,000 students attended, and tens of thousands more viewed online, according to NBC News.
One Twitter user, identifying herself as a Liberty student, disagreed with Falwell's generalization, tweeting to him, "I'm sure 'those Muslims' are not the people group you meant to refer to...Maybe 'Islamic terrorist' or 'terrorist." Falwell responded on Twitter that he was referring to 'those Muslims' that just carried out attacks in Paris and California," according to NBC.
"That's the only thing I would clarify. If I had to say what I said again, I'd say exactly the same thing," Falwell said, according to The Washington Post.
Falwell himself has recently decided to practice concealed carry, carrying a .25 pistol for the first time during the convocation speech, according to the Washington Post. He made reference to it as being in his back pocket, which spurred applause.
Most Liberty students cannot at present carry a concealed weapon, as the minimum age in Virginia is 21. Falwell has also stated that guns would not be permitted in the dorms, according to CNN.
Earlier this year, Falwell had stated that he is conservative, but does not wish to engage in political discourse. He is the son of the late pastor Jerry Falwell Sr., founder of Liberty University.
