Nicholas Brendon has settled one of the many legal troubles he racked up in 2015. He pled guilty to criminal mischief stemming from an incident with his girlfriend in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. on Sept. 30.
City Judge James Doern issued Brendon a conditional discharge, which means he will not serve jail time as long as he completes drug and alcohol counseling and stays out of trouble for one year, according to the Times Union.
"Based upon our review of the facts and circumstances of this case, and after speaking with the victim, we believe justice was served," District Attorney Karen Heggen told the Times Union.
The incident in question was Brendon's fourth arrest of the year. He allegedly grabbed her keys and threw her cell phone away when she tried to call for help. He then allegedly grabbed her around the throat and started choking her.
The 44-year-old troubled actor recently appeared on "The Dr. Phil Show" to discuss his rough year struggling with alcohol and depression. Brendon, who starred on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" for seven years, also opened up about his attempted suicide, cutting his wrists with a steak knife.
"I think I wanted to be heard," he told host Phil McGraw. "I think I wanted to be helped, you know? Because I think there's a lot of good life to live.
Brendon also entered rehab twice over the year and told McGraw he believes that "maybe I'm ready to be happy now."
