Miami Heat Extend Win Streak to 23 Games After Topping the Boston Celtics

The Miami Heat have won 23 games in a row, taking sole possession of the second-longest win streak in NBA history.

This comes after a 105-103 victory over the Boston Celtics Monday night.

Winning the 23rd game puts the Heat exactly 10 games behind the 1971-1972 Los Angeles Lakers, who own the longest winning streak in NBA history. The Lakers team, which included Hall of Famers like Jerry West and Wilt Chamberlain, won 33 games in a row.

The Heat were able to overcome a career-high performance from forward Jeff Green, who scored 43 points in the loss.

"It means a lot," LeBron James told ESPN. "I know the history of the game. To be sitting in second place right now ... for us to be there and doing it the way we want to do it, it means a lot."

After the first quarter, Miami was down by double digits, creating speculation of the streak being halted. However, the second quarter proved to be a different story, as the Heat outscored the Celtics 34-28.

Miami would make a 15-6 run to end the second quarter, after being down by as much as 17. The second-quarter performance was highlighted by a LeBron James alley-oop poster dunk on Jason Terry. The play rocked the social media world, especially after James was given a technical foul for staring at Terry after wards.

"The NBA should rescind that technical on LeBron. He was just standing by the grave, paying his last respects.," ESPN personality J.A. Adande joked on twitter.

From there on the game would go back and forth, each team making their respective runs. The final blow came with the score tied at 103. James, while being defended by Green, knocked down a jumper with 33 seconds left.

Paul Pierce would miss a three pointer with seven seconds left in the game.

"No moral victories, even though it was a close game," Pierce said according to ESPN.

Miami picked up their first win in Boston since the 2007-2008 season.
