Facebook is bringing in improvements to its struggling Home platform by adding content from Flickr, Pinterest, Tumblr, and Instagram for all users following a limited beta program earlier this month.
Facebook may be the world's largest social network with more than 1.2 billion monthly active users, but it has struggled to bring a similar success to its Home platform. Facebook introduced the smartphone launcher in April after a much-hyped promotion, but failed to live up to users' expectations. The company is not giving up at all, as it continues to improve its Home software to attract new users.
Earlier this month, Facebook incorporated content from Flickr, Pinterest, Tumblr and its own Instagram into the Home lock screen. The new feature was being tested within the Facebook for an Android Beta program. Facebook has rolled out the latest update to all users Thursday, allowing them to swipe through photos and posts from various photo-sharing services. Facebook Home made its debut with HTC First and was also available on Google Play Store as a standalone application. The app only supports select high-end smartphones including the Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung Galaxy Note II, Nexus 4, HTC First, HTC One X, HTC One X+ and HTC One. The huge buildup for the app lured several users to try out the social networks invention. The app surpassed 1 million downloads in a month, but it has failed to build up on the initial numbers and suffers a poor 2.5 rating on Google Play Store. However, the latest integration may bring about a breath of fresh air for the app. Users who enjoy different photo-sharing services must connect via Home settings menu and log in with their credentials. Facebook will then bring the latest updates and photos on the lock screen. The updated free app is available for download on Google Play Store.
