Seattle High-Speed Chase Ends With Police Killing Carjacker

A man in his 30s who stole two vehicles while armed with a gun has been shot and killed by police following a high-speed car chase in Seattle. The suspect reportedly stole the first vehicle Sunday afternoon after entering a coffee shop and a tattoo parlor while armed, according to the Fairfield Citizen. After driving north, he stole another vehicle and embarked on a chase with police that led through the interstate and towards the Ravenna neighborhood, reported the Seattle Times.

The man was killed after gunfire was exchanged between him and police officers at two different locations, according to the Fairfield Citizen. Several collisions and crashes were sustained during the chase, injuring several officers and a number of civilian motorists, according to ABC News.

"The suspect vehicle crashed into police cars, crashed into civilian cars," Police Chief Kathleen O'Toole told reporters, according to ABC News. She also stated that up to 11 officers were involved in the gunfire preceding the suspect's death.

Jasper Boas, who lives near where the suspect was killed, claimed there were "easily 20-30 shots, so it was enough to start pulling the shades down and hiding in the basement," according to reports by King5.

"Regrettably, this is a reality of gun violence," Seattle Mayor Ed Murray told reporters during a news conference after the event, according to King5. "We're not immune from this, and it's a challenge for this country and we have got to address it."

All officers involved in the shooting have been put on paid administrative leave in accordance with departmental policy, according to ABC News.
