Ravenswood ABC Family Review: A Horror Element Not Apparent in Pretty Little Liars; Show Begins With Four Mysteries

“Ravenswood” may be the spinoff of “Pretty Little Liars,” but there are a few major differences which are very apparent.

Nevertheless the show definitely is a must watch if you’re a Pretty Little Liars fan and/or if you’re into horror movies.

PLL fans will enjoy “Ravenswood” because it begins with at least four mysteries. If you watched the PLL Halloween special then you’ll recognize the first is what Miranda and Caleb found at the graveyard. For some reason Caleb’s face and name was plastered on a gravestone and Miranda’s face and name was plastered inside a crypt. The question is, “Why are their faces and names there if they’re not dead?” The second mystery has to do with the death of Luke and Olivia’s father. Did their mother kill him or is someone else responsible? The third mystery is the state of Remy’s mother Terry. How did she survive an attack that the rest of her unit did not?

The fourth mystery is also the biggest difference between “Pretty Little Liars” and “Ravenswood”—the mysterious little girl. There are numerous times in the pilot when we see her, a scary hand, or a shadowy figure appear. This hints “Ravenswood” might be going in a slightly supernatural direction which is in no way the direction PLL has gone. So if you’re a fan of horror productions, you should give this show a try.

As far as love interests go, there aren’t that many so far. We know Remy and Luke are in a forbidden love. While there may be a few more romantic connections on the horizon, there definitely won’t be numerous relationships.

“Ravenswood” airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on ABC Family.
