A suspect is in custody after opening fire at two soldiers at a Tennessee naval base on Thursday, USA TODAY reported.
Around 12:45 p.m., a member of the National Guard got in a fight with two other Guardsmen and pulled a gun out, shooting one in the foot and the other in the leg, according to CNN. Neither soldiers were said to sustain life-threatening injuries though they were both rushed to the hospital.
The lockdown was lifted an hour and a half after the suspect was taken into custody. A law enforcement official, who asked to remain anonymous, told The Associated Press that the shooter was a recruiter who was relieved of his duties.
According to Tennessee Military Department's Maj. Gen. Max Haston, the shooter is a sergeant first-class while the victims are a major and a sergeant major.
The names of the shooter and victims have not been released yet.
Millington Police Chief Rita Stanback said a small handgun was confiscated from the shooter after he was detained by authorities.
"I'm sure there could have been more (injuries) if they hadn't taken him into custody," Stanback added.
The Navy base, called Naval Support Activity Mid-South, is located in Millington and employs 7,500 military and civilians. It serves as a center for Navy personnel, logistical report, recruiting, and as a finance center for the Army Corps of Engineers.
The shooting in Tennessee comes just one month after former government contractor Aaron Alexis attacked the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., killing 12 people and wounding three others in a shooting rampage.
