Facebook, the social networking giant, has reportedly postponed the streaming of video adverts on its site until 2014.
Facebook was to feature video adverts this summer but the site delayed the launch claiming it needs some more time to come up with innovative presentation of the same. In late July there were rumors that Facebook won't be able to stick to its schedule.
The latest report from AllThingsD says that Facebook has pushed back the video ads until 2014, based on reports from many advertisement clients of the social networking giant. The clients claim that Facebook has asked them to be patient and that the video-ads will be rolled out sometime next year.
The ads will appear as pop-ups on the screen and start playing automatically once the user logs into his/her Facebook account, this is sure to annoy users and also adversely affect the traffic for the site. Facebook is trying to resolve the dilemma of tapping into one of the biggest revenue earning opportunity and gaining acceptance from the user base. Facebook undoubtedly will not like to miss the opportunity that may fetch handsome revenue of up to $2 million every day from the advertisers, reports TheNext Web. But it seems like the social networking giant is not ready to compromise on user acceptance at any cost.
The additional time will be reportedly utilized by Facebook to do follow ups on the reaction of its users to non-commercial ads that have started appearing on the site earlier this year.
Earlier reports also cited the slow performing video technology of Facebook to be another reason for the launch to be delayed. The technology needs an upgrade and the engineers are reportedly working on it to enable faster delivery of ads.
