The U.S. customers are expected to receive the Android 4.3 update early next month that will make the other Galaxy variants from Samsung compatible to its smart watch, the Galaxy Gear, that was released at IFA in September.
Initially Galaxy Gear was only supported by Note 3 released alongside the smartwatch at IFA. But the Android 4.3 update will make Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy S III and Note II compatible to Galaxy Gear, according to a recent post on phonearena. The update is expected to be rolled to Galaxy S III and Note II in the first week of November while the rest will receive the update by the year end.
Apart from Gear support, the 4.3 update will bring in certain improvements on these devices that include TRIM and ANT support, which will make the devices much faster, reports SamMobile. The Android 4.3 update will incorporate a few add-ons from Samsung to these gadgets like Samsung Wallet that comes as a pre loaded option, new keyboard and advanced browser that facilitates enhanced display on the smartphone interface and speedy surfing. The Samsung KnoX application supports Knox bootloader for dedicated applications on the device.
The Android 4.3 update also improves certain existing features on the Galaxy devices like better RAM management, display color reproduction, TouchWiz Launcher. Other new features coming along with the 4.3 Android update include New Reading Mode making texts more comprehensible, new camera firmware and minor UI tweaks.
The phonearena also cited a recent Best Buy document for possible dates for the respective U.S. carriers to roll out the update on the Galaxy devices. However, these dates need to get officially confirmed by the carriers.
The Best Buy document also reveals that U.S.-based retailers had a fair sale of the Galaxy Gear but the buyers are not happy with the device. Out of every 10 buyers three have returned the smartwatch. The reasons have not been clarified by Best Buy yet.
The Android 4.3 is expected to create a greater user acceptance for Galaxy Gear among the U.S. buyers.
