Originally, both "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Captain America: Civil War" shared the same release date. Wouldn't that have been interesting to watch play out? Even though Warner Bros. moved "Dawn of Justice" up a few months, the two films will still be inextricably linked, with their box office performances heavily scrutinized. But in advance of this blockbuster battle, we still have a few different ways to track which film is generating the most buzz.
Warner Bros. and DC released a full-length trailer for "Batman V Superman" just one week ahead of Marvel's "Civil War" (both debuting on "Jimmy Kimmel Live"). It looks like that strategy worked, as ListenFirst (via the Wall Street Journal) reports that the "Dawn of Justice" trailer topped "Civil War" as the most talked-about clip on Twitter.
ListenFirst's report says that "Dawn of Justice" captured the imagination and attention of the social networking site more than "Civil War." Perhaps that is because the trailer gave fans their first look at Doomsday in addition to Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, Ben Affleck's Batman and Henry Cavill's Superman standing together as a team.
The clip also beat out Kevin Hart and Ice Cube's comedy sequel "Ride Along 2" and the first trailer for Shane Black's upcoming "The Nice Guys" starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe.
However, just because Marvel lost this one battle does not mean it has lost the (civil) war. The Captain America trailer was met with widespread praise, while "Batman V Superman" did have its fair share of detractors. Is that something or nothing? We'll find out in 2016.
"Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" will hit theaters on March 25. "Captain America: Civil War" will follow on May 6.
