Indiana University Stabbing Leaves One Student Wounded, Two Arrested

A campus-wide alert was lifted at Indiana University on Sunday after two suspects were on the loose following a stabbing attack, the New York Daily News reported.

The two suspects, identified as Zesen Shen, 18, and Kaiyu Lao, 21, were detained by police officers after getting in an altercation with the 20-year-old victim.

After initial reports, an order to stay inside was issued to students after both men were escaping authorities. Once they were captured, both were charged with intimidation. Shen was additionally charged with battery for stabbing the victim in a parking lot.

"Around 4 a.m., apparently, three students were involved in some sort of a fight at a student apartment complex at the edge of campus," said university spokesman Mark Land.

Officers arrived at the Tulip Tree apartments around at 3:30 a.m. and found the victim, who police declined to identify, with stab wounds and rushed him to the hospital. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, according to campus police Capt. Laury Flint.

"We do have one victim at IU Hospital," she said. "The victim is male and that's really all I have at this point. It's still evolving. We have units out investigating all the leads."

Students were notified around 7:00 a.m. that campus was safe after the suspects were arrested. Additionally, the campus Twitter account issued several updates regarding the case.

The campus attack follows a week of disturbing violence on school grounds across the U.S.

On Monday, a middle school student in Nevada opened fire before class, wounding students, killing his teacher, and himself. Just two days after, a student in Washington was arrested after bringing a gun, knives, and 400 rounds of ammunition to school. Both incidents have been connected to cases of bullying.
