As the international manhunt for Paris attack suspect Salah Abdeslam continues, Moroccan authorities have reason to believe that he could have slipped into their country and have issued a warrant for his arrest.
Moroccan authorities issued the warrant at the end of November, reported Reuters. However, it's not clear whether Abdeslam fled to Morocco or another part of North Africa.
Abdeslam, who has been on the run since Nov.13, managed to flee Paris thanks to two associates who drove from Brussels to aid him in his escape. He wasn't named as a suspect the day after the attack, and thanks to his French citizenship he was allowed to travel freely in the European Union's Schengen Area, a 26-country region which does not require passports or other border control measures.
Since being named as a suspect, Abdeslam has been reportedly spotted in a few locations. Brussels was placed under lockdown and remained on high security alert for several days after local authorities recieved a tip of him being in the area, and there were even reports of him having fled to Syria, according to the Independent.
As the manhunt continues, it's still unclear what exact role Abdeslam played in the terror attack. French prosecutor Francois Molins said Abdeslam acted in an auxiliary position, buying detonators used during the attacks and driving participants to their targets, reported the International Business Times, while an unidentified friend of Abdeslam claims that Abdeslam was also supposed to commit suicide after the attacks and is now on the run for failing to do so.
