Sony announced last week a companion app for its next generation console PlayStation 4, by next month. The app will be rolled out in the U.S. November 13 and the European gamers have to wait a bit long until 22nd November, reports Kotaku.
The companion app, also called the PlayStation app, will enable the players to use their smartphones or tablets as the second screen for the game play. "Users can install PlayStation App on to their mobile devices to use as second screen in supported games," said Sony in a statement, reports Christianpost. "For example on The PLAYROOM, a title pre-installed in all PS$ systems that requires PlayStation Camera, users can draw pictures on their mobile device screens and flick them towards the TV. The images then appear as a 3D object within the game."
Sony had unveiled the PlayStation app earlier this year and promised to provide remote access to players via the app. Sony updated the Playstation app last month and added a few more features although the Remote Control facility on the app still needs to get confirmed by Sony.
The companion app will enable players to receive updates from their friends ( the other game users) on game progression, number of trophies earned, the videos they have shared on the gallery and what games they have purchased. In short the PlayStation app will help gamers keep track of the activities of other gamers in the community and to flaunt their own as well.
The modified PlayStation app will keep the gamers connected to other popular social networking sites simultaneously while playing the game, according to a post on IGN. Users will also be able to access content on the PlayStation Network, which includes news, blogs and game information. The language of the content will vary with the regions.
With the PlayStation app downloading games will be much faster and it can be customized as per the gamer's choice. The app will give information about upcoming game launches, it can also be used to make purchases and to safely install games.
The new app can also act as an alternate controller provided the smartphone and the console have the same Wi-Fi connection. The app will be available for both iOS and Android devices on release.
