NBC has tapped former "Lost" writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach to pen the script for its "Xena: Warrior Princess" reboot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Grillo-Marxuach will also serve as an executive producer on the project led by co-creator Rob Tapert and executive producer Sam Raimi. His other writing credits include shows such as "Helix," "Medium" and "Charlie's Angels" (2011).
Tapert and John Schulian created the original syndicated series that starred Tapert's wife, Lucy Lawless as the Xena. So far, Lawless has no official involvement in the NBC reboot.
"We'd love to have Lucy be a part of it - if we felt that her presence didn't overshadow the direction we take with it. I'm not sure how she could be a part of it if she wasn't playing Xena, and I don't know if that's a direction we'll ever go," NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt told The Hollywood Reporter in August.
The new "Xena: Warrior Princess" would feature a more modern title character who possesses the same "charm and charisma" as Lawless and smarts like Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games." Producers also want a sophisticated and smart superhero for a new generation.
