The Miami Heat overcame a 27-point deficit Wednesday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers, to extend their winning streak to 24 games, according to ESPN.com.
The win puts them nine back of the record set by the 1971-1972 Los Angeles Lakers.
Things looked bleak for most of the game as the Cavs built a 27-point lead in the third quarter. It seemed the streak would end in Cleveland—where LeBron James spent the first seven seasons of his career.
Besides being big-time for his play on the court, James is also widely known for “The Decision”—his TV-special in which he revealed which team he'd play for in the 2010-2011 season. With the world watching, James uttered those now infamous words, “I'm taking his talents to South Beach.” Since that day, Cleveland has not forgiven him.
With the Heat down big, teammate Dwyane Wade knew there was no way James was losing in Cleveland.
“That guy right there doesn't want to lose in this building,” Wade said according to ESPN. “Not tonight.”
As the game went on the Heat slowly began to chip away at the lead. With 7:44 left in the third quarter they had trimmed the deficit to 17, 67-40. At the end of the third quarter, the lead was nine, 77-68. A 15-2 run to start the fourth quarter gave the Heat a 83-79 lead.
From then on it would be close, but James put the Heat up with 4.7 seconds left. He hit two free throws and the Heat went on to win 98-95. C.J. Miles had a chance to tie the game, but missed a three-pointer at the buzzer
James finished the game with another triple-double, having 25 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists. He also added 2 steals and three blocks.
The Cavs put up a good fight despite not having their young. All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving, and two of their major pieces, Dion Waiters and Anderson Varejao. Wayne Ellington and Tristan Thompson had 20 and 18 points respectively.
Before the game a fan ran onto the floor and had to be escorted off.
"This was one of the most bizarre, unique days of my life with everything that happened," said James, according to ESPN. "It also was one of the best comebacks I've ever been a part of."
The Heats next game is Friday, at the Detroit Pistons.
