Samsung is expanding the support for Galaxy Gear smartwatch to three new devices, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note II, and Galaxy SIII, by rolling out its latest Premium Suite software update.
The time has come for you to pair the Galaxy Gear smartwatch with your Samsung smartphone without upgrading to the sole compatible device, the Galaxy Note III. Samsung, the world's largest smartphone maker, announced in a press statement that Galaxy S4, Note II, and SIII will receive the latest Premium Suite software ( Android 4.3) update in the coming weeks. This update will support your existing smartphone to pair with the wearable Gear smartwatch.
The Galaxy Gear smartwatch has not been the most favorite wearable tech gadget around. Several reviewers raised concerns over Samsung's smartwatch, but the tech giant is not giving up hopes so quickly. In addition to expanding support to new devices, Samsung will hold its first developer's conference in San Francisco this week to encourage app makers to build more apps and software for its wide range of gadgets, including Galaxy Gear.
The Gear smartwatch was criticized by reviewers for its low battery life, dependence on phone and non-friendly user interface, which increased the return rate. According to Geek.com, one in three Gear buyers had returned the smartwatch purchased from different Best Buy locations.
The latest update will not only bring support for Gear smartwatch, but will also include several new advancements. The Premium Suite Android 4.3 update will add new options such as Easy Mode, Multi Window, and additional camera options. In addition, the update includes SAFE and KNOX.
According to the company's press release, SAFE makes their Galaxy smartphones more suitable to use in the workplace and KNOX security software offers added protection to all the data on the phone.
While the update is only rolled out to three of Samsung's best selling smartphones, the Galaxy S4 Mini and Galaxy Mega smartphone will have to wait a little longer as the roll out is set to arrive in the "coming months."
The Android 4.3 roll-out will vary from carrier to carrier as they review and push it to the smartphones in their network.
