Samsung Unveils SDKs Lineup

Samsung unveiled five software development kits (SDKs) Monday at the developers' conference in San Francisco. The SDKs are primarily meant for the developers to create apps on devices.

The SDKS are for multi screen capabilities, gaming, mobiles, TV and enterprise. The SDKs are primarily targeted against the streaming solutions by Apple and Google .

The concept of streaming videos or selected programs on television is nothing new. But the Samsung SDKs offer music and games too, reveals a recent post on Slashgear. The SDKs will help the developers create mobile apps for the smartphones that can send media files to the synchronized television sets. Moreover, it will also enable regular functions like Play, pause, volume output, and other basic playback features on native devices with access to media files either on television sets or over the smartphones.

In fact, the South Korean tech giant is a step ahead of its rivals as the upcoming SDKs are compatible with DIAL, a multi screen protocol jointly developed by Google and Netflix.

The added protocol will enable developers to boost smartphones with added facilities. Alongside the regular streaming of media files, the users will be able to launch games on the smartphones or tablets with the television sets acting as a second screen. The SDKs will also aid in creating overlays on the TV shows that resemble Twitter feeds or game stats.

The SDKS can be used across platforms in the future as it has iOS,HTML5 and Android interfaces.

San Francisco based video chat startup, Rabbit, has announced that it will be using the upcoming SDKs for its services that will allow the users to watch videos simultaneously while chatting with friends, reports Gigaom. "Samsung's SDK is quite powerful and easy to use, plus they have a strong blend of powerful hardware to work with," said Stephanie Morgan, co-founder of Rabbit.

The SDKs will be rolled out on Nov. 12, compatible with latest 2013/2014 TV models from Samsung as of now.
